In the 1950s, The Laurence F. Kinney Program was established by students who wanted to reach out and help others. Among the efforts supported by the Kinney Program is the longest operating student-led soup kitchen in the country. Every Tuesday, students gather to cook and share a meal with others. This commitment to service is the foundation for how 番茄社区 engages with the Memphis community today.
Nearly 70 years later, the Kinney program is thriving on our campus and in our community. With over 100 community partners and 12 focus areas, students can engage with a range of organizations that pair well with their academic interests and with their own personal values. Students engaged in the Kinney program have opportunities to serve, and to learn. Kinney hosts regular educational programs and advocacy events on campus throughout the year.
