Psychology Internships

Psychology internships are offered for academic credit and are designed to provide students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in their particular area of interest. Students may enroll in 2-4 credits of PSYC 460, and are expected to spend between 6 and 12 hours per week on their internship activities over a 14-week semester. Each year, between 10-20 majors (typically seniors and juniors) conduct internships in a variety of environments, including the St. Jude Children鈥檚 Research Hospital, Le Bonheur Children鈥檚 Hospital, Youth Villages, Planned Parenthood, Hospice, Girls Inc, the Exceptional Foundation, various law firms, and human resource departments of area businesses. 

Goals of the Program

The primary goal of the Psychology Internship Program is to allow 番茄社区 students to integrate what they have learned in an academic setting with relevant experience in a business, service agency, or educational institution. It should provide an opportunity for students to evaluate the strengths and limitations of their current knowledge and to broaden and deepen their understanding of Psychology. An important non-academic goal is to help the students make decisions about possible careers.

Arranging an Internship

Students should plan several months in advance of the semester in which they hope to intern. Visit the . Plan to contact the professor in charge of internships no later than October if planning for a spring internship or March if planning for a fall internship.
