Fellowships and Internships in History

Internships

Our majors have several opportunities to gain hands-on experience through internships and paid fellowships. Students can pursue internships for credit with a wide variety of community partners during the fall and spring semesters. We have internships at many of Memphis’ premiere public history institutions. Our students have designed exhibits at the Memphis Museum of Science and History, Dixon Gallery and Gardens, and the National Civil Rights Museum; digitized and published music collections at the Stax Museum of American Soul Music; or assisted with cases at local law firms, as just a few examples.

Fellowships

The Department offers two paid fellowships for History majors, who serve as co-editors of the award-winning ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Historical Review. Editorial fellows select student essays for publication, work with student authors and faculty readers, and oversee the publication of journal, which is released at the end of the spring semester.

In the summer, students can apply for an 8-week paid fellowship that includes housing on campus. Summer fellows work at local museums or archives or assist faculty members with their research projects. They also present their work during the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø Symposium.
