Environmental Studies and Sciences

The Environmental Studies & Sciences Program at Rhodes College offers an innovative curriculum that allows students to combine study in social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and fine arts. The program encourages a personalized combination of interdisciplinary coursework and a sustained examination of global and local contexts environmental issues from many perspectives.

 

Maymesters are unique opportunities to study off-campus or abroad with 番茄社区 professors who are experts in their fields. Here, Dr. Michael Collins and Spring Smith '21 talk about 番茄社区' Maymester in Namibia.

Prof. Jennifer Sciubba interviewed Dr. Cary Fowler '71 about his work to conserve crop diversity. The Steve and Riea Lainoff Crop Trust Fellowship in Honor of Cary Fowler '71 provides funding for a recent Rhodes College graduate to work at the Crop Trust in Bonn, Germany for 12 months after graduation.

Departmental News and Events

Anna Claire Tilley, a Rhodes College senior from Fort Smith, AR, has been awarded The Steve and Riea Lainoff Crop Trust Fellowship in Honor of Cary Fowler 鈥71. She is pursuing a major in urban studies and a minor in environmental studies.
番茄社区 has received notable designations over the years for its magnificent grounds, and with about 120 tree species, it is certified as a Level IV Arboretum. Now, the ROOTS Gardening Club is introducing two more tree species.
Parth Sinojia 鈥25 won the undergraduate category and Jake Ackerman 鈥24 was runner-up at the Memphis Area Collegiate Geospatial Showcase presented April 12 at The University of Memphis.
